World premiere METSTRADE in Amsterdam – most compact inboard engines on the market
From 16 to 18 November 2021, ENGINEme GmbH will present the latest generation of ARENS RVI marine engines under the “ARENS MOTORS” brand. Among other things, the Berlin tech company has equipped their drive units with larger engine displacement.
With 379 ccm, the small power plants achieve a power-speed ratio that can compete with diesel inboards of equal performance. Nevertheless, RVI drives weigh only half as much, are much more compact and are easier to install. Since four-stroke-typical parts such as cylinder head valves, camshaft, oil circulation lubrication or oil sump are omitted, operation is not only very low-maintenance, but also insensitive to strong position changes, e.g. due to swell or heeling. The engines are also equipped with a closed fuel system that doesn’t allow fuel or vapours to escape. A special feature of RVI technology is its flexibility with regard to green fuels and sustainable long-term use.
ARENS RVI SAIL 15 – “New inboard: as easy to install as an outboard”
ARENS RVI SHAFT 15 – world premiere of the smallest shaft drive on the market
Powerhead RVI 379-2Z boxer – drive unit as range extender (REx)

ARENS MOTORS – sustainable boat drives with “downsizing, green fuels and hybridisation”
ARENS MOTORS is an ENGINEme GmbH brand, a company specialising in the development of sustainable heat engines. Sustainable alternative solutions are needed for markets and applications in which full electrification by battery or fuel cell drives is not ecologically, economically or practically feasible.
ENGINEme GmbH addresses markets in which drive machines with proven operating strategies and infrastructures cannot be dispensed with, but where sustainable, i.e. climate and environmentally friendly use is necessary and in demand. The recreational marine market is one of those markets in which boat propulsion systems in particular face a conflict of objectives between the demand for sustainability (CO2 neutrality, avoidance of emissions, protection of resources, etc.) and existing user requirements (costs, availability, range, handling, etc.). The aim of ENGINEme GmbH is to make a decisive contribution to resolving this conflict of objectives.
In the medium term, the use of fossil and synthetic diesel and petrol fuels can be expected in the marine sector. However, consumption should be kept to a minimum for environmental and cost reasons. For experts in the field of mobile heat engines, it has been clear for some time that, away from commercially operated large engines, a combination of downsizing and green fuels is the key to the trade-off between range and environmental compatibility. This is the strategy pursued by ENGINEme GmbH.
It is becoming apparent that fuels that are cheaper to produce in terms of energy will play a greater role than is the case today. These include in particular alcohol fuels such as methanol or ethanol, which are already used blended with conventional fuels. The concept of the RVI engines with their electronic control and simple design allow a later conversion to such fuels with comparatively little effort. The sustainability concept of the ARENS RVI motors provides for the components to be designed for long-term use over several decades and for the raw materials to be recycled with little effort. On the other hand, production and operation take place with minimal energy input, fed from regenerative sources.
